The Santa Claus Club was started in 1946 by William Farrell when he returned home from WWII. Upon seeing how the poor children of Valatie's mill area were destined for a disappointing Christmas, Mr. Farrell using his own funds, purchased gifts, dressed as Santa and went door to door on Christmas Eve delivering toys and happiness to the children. The following year he purchased a toy for every child in Valatie up to 12-years old with the goal to visit every home with no distinction between rich and poor. As this was a giant task which he could not do by himself, his friends joined forces with him and ever since, the Valatie Santa Claus Club has been bringing toys and happiness to every child. (Map)
